Frequently Asked Questions

What is a public IP address?

When you connect to the internet, a (public) IP address is automatically assigned to you as a means of identification. With Salt, as with most operators worldwide, this is not static but dynamic: each time you connect, a new IP address is assigned to you.

Why get a public static IP address?

Having a static IP address makes it easier to set up certain advanced uses, such as:

  • set-up of a home automation network in your home;
  • remote access to your own email server;
  • remote access to local network equipment (e.g. printer, video surveillance camera, NAS drive, etc.).
